Today marks the 20th anniversary of the North American release of Castlevania: Symphony Of The Night! Originally released in Japan in March of 1997, the PlayStation 1 classic was delayed in the West due to being given full English voice acting for the U.S. and European versions of the game. Released to critical acclaim, Symphony Of The Night is a direct sequel to PC Engine game, Rondo Of Blood (later ported to the Super Nintendo as Dracula X / Vampire's Kiss), and follows protagonist, Alucard, throughout Dracula's castle. The game is widely considered to be one of the greatest games ever made, frequently topping numerous "Top 100" lists, and helped popularise the "Metroidvania" style gameplay, with many fans referring to many post-SOTN Castlevania games as "IGA-vania" after game creator and designer, Koji Igarashi. The musical score for the game, by Michiru Yamane, is often hailed as one of the best soundtracks in video game history, with some limited edition releases of the game being released with the CD soundtrack. The game was released in limited numbers in the UK, however, and did not achieve the popularity that it deserved, despite strong sales in Japan and across North America. In Japan, the game received a SEGA Saturn release with additional extras, although modern re-releases of the game on Xbox and PlayStation have been based on the original PlayStation version. To celebrate this phenomenal game, here's a collection of Displate artwork based on Konami's popular Castlevania franchise!
