Microsoft's tent-pole Xbox franchise, Halo, has been going strong since 2001 when Bungie first released Halo: Combat Evolved for the original Xbox. Considered at the time to be the most advanced first-person shooter, it was the game that sold Xbox consoles and propelled Microsoft's Xbox onto the world stage as a major video game console, as well as cementing Master Chief as one of the most recognisable video game protagonists of all time! The halo franchise has had several spin-offs over the last two decades, such as Halo Wars and ODST, and the franchise itself has been handled by several different developers. In celebration of the series, here's a selection of Displate artwork by artist Rykker o7, featuring various characters from the popular franchise! Check out the full set by clicking the button above!
George Lucas released the iconic Star Wars film in 1997 - a sci-fi epic that penetrated all forms of popular culture in the decades that followed! The film introduced cinema audiences to numerous iconic characters, spaceships, locales, and of course, the lightsaber weapon used solely by those who possess "The force" within them - namely the Jedi and Sith. With each lightsaber being unique to its user, this fictional energy sword is supposed to only able to be wielded successfully by those who have trained extensively in the ways of the Jedi, although several other characters have exhibited the ability to use a lightsaber from time to time. The powerful energy blade is able to melt and burn through many substances with relative ease, as well as inflicting a cauterized wound when it comes into contact with flesh. The sword can also be used as a defensive weapon, with the user able to deflect projectiles and other lightsaber beams. In honour of this iconic weapon, here's a set of officially licenced Displate artwork featuring the various unique lightsabers as used by the different characters in the Star Wars films! Solo: A Star Wars Story is currently dividing fans of Star Wars, and is also struggling to earn back its $250 million budget at the box office, so far falling short by $70 million as it enters its second week in theatres. With Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom due to be launched within the next week, it seems unlikely that Solo will break even, with many people blaming the close release schedule to The Last Jedi, and behemoth May blockbusters such as Avengers: Infinity War and Deadpool 2. Poor box office performance aside, here's a matching set of official Displate artwork featuring some of the characters from the film for those who enjoyed it. As expected, Deadpool 2 is tearing up movie theatres around the world having already broken the record for an opening weekend for an R-rated film, and knocking Avengers: Infinity War from the top spot. The well-received sequel starring Ryan Reynolds has already earned back the $110 million budget, and looks on course to break the half billion Dollar threshold before it finishes its cinema run! The film has so far resonated well with audiences, and helps set-up a potential X-Force movie in the near future, progressing 20th Century Fox's X-Men franchise. To celebrate the release of this fan-favourite, here's another selection of Displate artwork featuring the merc with a mouth, Deadpool!
The hugely anticipated sequel to 2016's surprise blockbuster, Deadpool, is finally here! Deadpool 2 is launching in cinemas around the world, and once again follows the hi-jinks of the fourth wall breaking titular character played by Ryan Reynolds, alongside a much larger cast of superhero and anti-hero characters from Marvel's X-Men universe. The previous film broke new ground for R-rated comic book films, proving that there is a place for a foul-mouthed and violent comic book character. The success of the previous film prompted 20th Century Fox to commission a sequel, which sees Deadpool protecting a vulnerable young mutant from the time-traveller Cable. To celebrate the release of Deadpool 2 in theatres, here's a selection of Displate artwork based on the Merc With A Mouth, Wade Wilson!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY POPCULART!
Hello to all my fellow Displate artists and collectors! I don't often break the fourth wall, but when I do it's usually to announce a great achievement - and this time is no exception. I would like to officially announce that the PopCulArt website is ONE YEAR OLD today!
One year ago I started the PopCulArt project as a way to better aid Displate collectors to find new artwork, and to also help out the struggling artists by promoting their artwork. The intent was to provide popular culture fans with an easy-to-navigate interface to enable easy access to their favourite Displate artwork categories with just a few clicks, as well as help give the various artists some much-needed exposure in order to generate more sales for them. After drafting a basic idea for a website, I set about creating the site you see before you. My inaugural blog post was made on the 8th of May 2017!
Over the last twelve months the PopCulArt website has grown, as has the social media following for the site. I have made many new friends via social media over the last year, and I feel that I have brought the Displate community closer together, and have helped several artists with minor issues along the way. Displate in turn has also undergone several major changes (for the better) during this time, such as offering new poster sizes and new products, but each change means that PopCulArt has had to adapt. Displate has recently made a very positive change to enable Displate merchants to better promote single artworks, and as a result I find myself once again making changes to the PopCulArt website in order to provide you guys with the best possible service that I can.
However... These changes are going to take a little time to implement, as I want to be thorough. Some areas of the PopCulArt website may not work as expected while the changes are being implemented, and some sections will disappear entirely to make way for something new and better. The site will still remain functional while I make improvements, but if a specific page looks a mess or incomplete, then that is likely because I am working on the particular section of the site. I aim to have the updates finished as soon as humanly possible, although I am simultaneously updating the PopCulArt Pinterest page as well as revising some older blog posts. I can only apologise in advance for any disruption that may be caused during this time.
